In an amazing ‘double first’, Queensland teenagers Hayden Cotter (16) and Lani Pallister (15) were the first Juniors to win the GMHBA Lorne Pier to Pub ‘Superfish’ open event, and also the first to win both the Juniors and Open categories in the one day!

Hayden beat the two favourites, Rio 400m Gold Medallist Mack Horton and Rio 1500m Gold Medallist Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri to win, and Lani beat 6-time winner Harriet Brown and champion  Californian open water swimmer Kelsey Cummings.

Both Lani and Hayden have a great future, with Lani shooting for the Commonwealth Games trials (to follow in her Mum’s footsteps Jannelle Elford 800m Gold medallist), and Hayden aiming to be the Australia’s top open water swimmer over 5 and 10k.
