2020 Pre-Season Adult Bronze Expression of Interest Form and Update

Dear Lorne Members

With the current COVID-19 restrictions in place in Metro Melbourne and Regional Victoria, the Lorne S.L.S.C. has not been able to arrange with any certainty, the seasonal training and assessment (T&A) activities. The T&A committee often hosts a pre-season Adult bronze course specifically aimed at mature aged members wishing to get their qualifications before summer activities commence. As you can imagine, many of our trainers, assessors and candidates typically reside in Metro Melbourne making it incredibly difficult to determine when and how the course will run.

The T&A committee is currently working with the executive committee and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) to discuss the structure of the course. While we don’t have any answers at the moment, we are hoping to present some options to you in the near future.

If you’re interested in obtaining your Bronze Medallion as a mature aged member, given it will be held in line with COVID-19 restrictions, please complete the form via the link.

We will then be able to contact you to update you on any and all options there may be for training and assessment this season.

The style of this course will utilise the newly released online training material from SLSA. This will involve the candidates to conduct online modules through their computer or tablets. These modules will need to be completed before the relevant training session that will be outlined in the schedule. To get your medallion, it is a requirement that you also attend a total of 39.5 hrs of face to face learning, along with online learning. During these times and given that we understand that that is a large time commitment as most candidates will have other responsibilities, a large portion of that training will be conducted over a video conferencing platform allowing you to learn the material from home, before attending practical sessions on weekends to reinforce your learning. We ask that the candidates make themselves available for the time’s outlined, but depending on numbers, you may not need this much time to learn but this will be left up to the trainer to decide.

At this stage, there are still aspects of the course that need to be worked out, however, to give everyone a sense of when this course could run the below dates and times have been drafted. These are not final and may have to be pushed back depending on restrictions and planning.

Please note that the practical sessions will be held in Lorne and all those who wish to attend must be able to be present for the practical sessions. Currently, the Victorian government plans to allow free travel between metro and regional Victoria by the 8th November 2020 meaning Melbourne members will be able to attend the planned course. If this does change, then unfortunately this course will only be available to those that can legally be in Lorne.
