Gap Year will be a points based recognition and reward program involving many facets of surf lifesaving. Every Gappy who reaches 100 points receives a $50 Lorne SLSC merchandise voucher – Gappys will be given a record book of attendance (which they must get signed at each activity) to prove their achievements and also highlight to them the various aspects of the program:
1. RE-QUALIFICATION (25 points)
All U/14 members from the previous season who successfully completed the S.R.C will be personally contacted inviting them to attend the club’s official re-qualification day where they must demonstrate basic knowledge they learned in the SRC. On this day our Junior Captain, Chris Manning, will be specifically briefed to ensure that the U/15 –Gap Year Program attendees are greeted and introduced to the re-qual process.
2. NIPPER INSTRUCTION (25 points)
Our U/15’s (Gappys) who have re-qualified will be allocated in pairs to an age level in the Nipper program where in conjunction with the Age Level Manager will be involved in an “instructor capacity” to help deliver the disciplines of the Nipper program. Gappys must attend at least 3 sessions to receive their points.
3. COMPETITION (20 points per carnival)
Our U/15’s (Gappys) along with our U/14’s who successfully complete/requal their S.R.C. will start to focus their skills with the goal of having Lorne U/15 teams at the first carnival in January 2012 and beyond.
4. TRAINING (5 points per training session)
Chris Manning will be running a Development Squad to encourage Gappies to improve their surf skills and introduce them to new craft such as Snr Boards, surf swimming and beach flags. Training will commence outside the ski shed between Dec 27 to Jan 6 – specific times and dates to be posted on the noticeboard, downstairs in the clubhouse corridor
5. MOUNTAIN TO SURF (25 points)
The club’s fun run will be now take place on the Friday morning of 6 January 2012. We will need as many helpers as possible and Gappys will be qualified to marshal the course. Please report to Club Captain Daniel Mugavin at 7am upstairs in the clubhouse.
PATROLS
Patrols do not form part of the program as it is expected that all active members commit to voluntary patrols. Our U/15’s (Gappys) have been allocated to a Patrol and should attend as many of these patrols as they can reporting to the Patrol Captain – check the Patrol Roster in the Mower. Please note that to compete at the 2012 State Titles in U14 and U15 level you must complete 16 hours of patrols in calendar year 2011.
