The first swim starts around 10:30am however please check the Swim Waves section for the precise wave start time each year.
1.2km open water swim from the Lorne Pier to the beach. Depending on the day and the tide the distance can be slightly longer than this. You should be able to confidently swim 1500m in a pool
The Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub swim attracts swimmers from all ages and from all levels including recreational and professional. You will need to complete the swim in reasonable time, less than 40 minutes. Swimmers who take too long may be removed from the water for their own safety.

A wetsuit is not essential, however many participants choose to wear one for warmth and comfort. We strongly recommend that you wear a wetsuit.
Results will be available on the surfclub's website later in the day of the race.

Everyone should be a regular swimmer and we encourage regular medical check-ups. If you have not been swimming for a while or have never swum in an open water event or in the ocean you should definitely have a medical check up.
Boats cannot come close to the competitors. Maritime Safety Victoria has clear rules issued as part of our race permit to ensure the safety of competitors, there is a boating exclusion zone for the event from 7:30am to 5pm from the pier to the beach and 500m from the shore along this distance. Event Rescue craft will be monitoring the exclusion zone.
T-shirts will be mailed in early Jan as soon as our Lorne physical event occurs.
Yes, so long as you enter in a valid time into the system via the link that will be sent to you.
We record a time for the virtual events but not a place, so a place in the event is not possible.. The conditions of competing are not the same, a flat running track for example is not the same as the undulating terrain as the run course.
You have to be double vaccinated to enter event (or present medical exemption certificate) and be able to show your certificate.
Use the Medicare app on your phone, the Victoria Service app, or print out a copy of your certificate and bring it with you. You MUST have proof of vaccination
During on-line registration we ask you to confirm that you are double vaccinated. This is the only requirement for our virtual events.
Present to Troubleshooting on the Thursday prior to the race between 2 and 7pm or on the Friday morning from 7am The cost of a replacement bib is $15
At the event, present to troubleshooting next to the T-shirt / Registration Marquee. If not at the event, send an email to with the details (NB there are no refunds)
Do not attend the event, seek medical advice, and send and email to with the details requesting a refund due to covid (there is a $15- administration fee)
