The Pier to Pub is an annual open water swim event held in Lorne, Victoria, Australia. It is one of the largest ocean swims in the world, attracting thousands of participants each year. The swim starts at the Lorne Pier and finishes at the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club, and covers a distance of approximately 1.2 kilometers. The event is organized by the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club and is the major fundraiser for the club and its programs.
The Pier to Pub is known for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and attracts swimmers of all ages and abilities, from seasoned competitors to recreational swimmers. The event is held in the summer months, and participants can enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery along the way.

Before
You need to have your race bib with you so your time can be recorded.
The start is from the oval on Williams Street and access must be from the south i.e. Smith Street/William Street Corner.
During
We use a wave start with the fastest runners going first, followed by slower runners, walkers, people in star wars costumes, etc.
Run waves are smaller and a bit further apart. Waves start at 8:30 am.
Water is provided on exit from the run as well as drink stations along the course.
After
Hydrate, cool down and change.
Prize presentations. Category winners will be notified by SMS. Prize presentation will be on the stage.
Before
Registration will be similar to previous years, t-shirt, timing band and swim cap collection from the registration tent. Registration opens at 8:00 am and closes at 12:00 noon.
We have added more swim waves and spread the event out so that the number of people at the start is reduced. Waves now start at 11:00 am and go through the day. See Here
Gear drop is part of the start queue at the pier. For environmental reasons, we encourage competitors to bring their own gear bags we can add a label to.
We run a shuttle service to get your gear to the finish. Your gear is available in the gear tent.
During
Please aim to be at your wave 30 minutes before it starts.

Water is provided on exit from the swim.
After
Please collect your gear, change, and then checkout our village of exhibitors.
Check out the Powercor scenic high rise “lift” . There are change tents located on the foreshore finish area.
Category winners will be notified by SMS for prize presentations on the stage.
Swimmers who wish to swap waves may do so but only within their age and sex category. For example a Master Female could swap to any other Master Female wave. Remember if you are a potential winner you can only win from the first wave of your age category.
The virtual events
The virtual event is good for people who can’t compete on the day, etc. Numbers are limited.
The virtual event includes a t-shirt which will be mailed to you in late January.
When you enter the virtual event you will be sent a link for uploading your time. You need to complete your virtual event and upload the time by the 25th January 2024.
The virtual run
We are offering a virtual run this year as well as the actual run. The virtual run you complete the run in your local track street park etc, and tell us the time that you did. Results for the virtual run will be shown as an asterisked entry.
The virtual swim
We are offering a virtual swim this year as well as the actual swim. For the virtual swim you complete the swim in your local pool, river lake dam etc, and tell us the time that you did. Results for the virtual swim will be shown as an asterisked entry.
Run Bib Collection
Bibs are mailed out to competitors unless you opted to collect them on site.
Bibs can be collected …
- Thursday, 11th January — 4 pm to 6 pm at the T-shirt pickup Tent. You can pick up your race bib.
- Friday, 12th January — 7 am at the T-shirt pickup Tent. You can pick up your race bib.
If you forgot your bib we can provide a replacement. There is a fee of $15.00 for the replacement bib.
Same Time Swim
If you need to swim early or must swim with people outside your age group, you can join the “Same Time Swim Category”. This limited number swim category will be scheduled around midday. All members of the group you wish to swim with must select this option to be included in this swim wave. Note: There are NO place getters or prizes for this category, but the swim counts towards Sharkbait. This category accepts all ages and is unisex.
Presentations
Presentations will be on stage. We will SMS all placegetters to be at their presentation and as in past years will be alerting people during the finish that they are a place getter.
An Award tent is available next to the registration tent from which you can collect your medal. We have a signage wall set up nearby so you can make your socials photos.
Awardees will be published closer to the event.
Mountain Goat awards
The tent operates from 9:00 am till 11:00 am.
Sharkbait club medals
The tent operates from 9:00 am till 12:00 noon.
Events, Cancellations, Refunds
Refunds for any reasons are available until 15/Dec/2023. An administrative fee of $15.00 is charged.

Boating Exclusion Zone
Please note that there is a boating exclusion zone on the day of the Pier to Pub. It runs from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm and covers the area from the Pier to Erskine River mouth. No craft may enter this area during this time.
